Peru celebrates some 3,000 festivals a year. Most of them are held in homage to a patron saint and are part of the Christian calendar adopted in colonial times, although they have blended with the magical beliefs of ancient forms of worship.
Recently arqueological discoveries of musical instruments, it is known that in Peru, music goes back at least to 10000 years of antiquity. Because of this long traditions, in Peru we have a variety of musical instruments as quenas, zamponas, pututos (trumpets made of marine seashells) and a big variety of wind instruments in whose manufacture materials are from the cane, mud, bones, horns and precious metals.
Because of the continue contact with the western, we have included different instruments that have been adapted by different regions of the country, like the harp, the violin, the guitar especially in the Andes of Peru.
The mix of the Andes and the western has cause in Peru more than 1300 musical genres, but only two of them have turned into symbols of the Peruvian Folk, Huayno and Marinera. |
