THE CITY OF CUSCO
Declared a World Cultural Heritage in 1983
Cusco, located at the south of the Peruvian Andes (3250 above sea level), is the main tourist city of the country and one of the most important of America. Known by the Incas for “Ciudad Sagrada” or “Sacred City” is the capital of the most important Pre-Colombian Empire: El Tahuantinsuyo. Cusco in quechua, Qosqo means “Ombligo del Mundo” or “Bellybutton of the world” because in the old times, Cusco controlled different roads in which united countries of South America like Colombia and Argentina.
HISTORY SANCTUARY OF MACHU PICCHU

Machu Picchu, old city located at the south of the Peruvian Andes, is the main attraction of Cusco. Discovered in 1911 by the North American explorer Hiram Bingham, this citadel is considering an extraordinary example of arquitecture in the world. Machu Picchu (Montaña Vieja) or (Old Mountain) is located at the top of a mountain which domain the “Urubamba Canyon”. People also think that Machu Picchu was the center of astronomical observation and worship, or could also be a very private place for the family of the Inca Pachacutec.
ARQUEOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHAVIN
Declared a World Cultural Heritage in 1985
The arqueological place of Chavin of Huantar, belongs to the year 1000 to 300 B.C. period, this represents the synthesis of the development of the Andean Culture.
Chavin is located at 3185 meters above sea level, and is located three hours away from the city of Huaraz. The religious center of Chavin was built in stone, with underground alleys and a series of pyramidal structures. Inside the Chavin development, we can appreciate very well worked figures, which always combine feline characters, prey birds or snakes. This development has an underground gallery, where people can appreciate the Lanzon, a big monolith of 3.75 meters of high, with the form of a gigantic spearhead. Chavin is one of the most ancient sacred places of America.
NATIONAL PARK OF HUSCARAN

The Huascaran is the second highest park in the Andes of South America and its part of the highest tropical mountain range of the world. The Huascaran has a top mountain of 6000 meters high, and this is the environment for a variety of species as the Condor, Vicuña, White tail deer, Pumas, Vizcachas and the cat and Andean fox. The Huascaran Park possesses 27 mountains, 663 glaciers, 269 lakes and 41 rivers.
ARQUEOLOGICAL ZONE OF CHAN CHAN
Declared a World Cultural Heritage in 1986
Chan Chan it is known internationally as the biggest mud citadel of the Pre-Hispanic world. In the Yunga dialect, Jang Jang means “The Sun, the Sun”. It was the religious capital of the Chimu dominium (700 -1400 AD) in the Moche Valley River, which is located in the “La Libertad” state (north of Peru). It is approximately 20km2, and it believed that one hundred thousand people occupied it. The city was an urban center of a vast regional state dominating half of the Peruvian coast from Tumbes and the border with Ecuador, all the way to the South of Lima. |
